The New York Rangers are shaking things up on the power play, and it’s raising eyebrows across the league. With star defenseman Adam Fox sidelined by injury, the team is desperately searching for a 'defensive conscience' to anchor their struggling man-advantage unit. But here's where it gets controversial: Coach Mike Sullivan has opted for a bold five-forward lineup, ditching the traditional defenseman at the point. And this is the part most people miss—he’s handed the quarterback role to center Mika Zibanejad, replacing the offensively gifted Artemi Panarin.
Sullivan’s reasoning? Zibanejad’s cerebral playmaking and two-way prowess might be the missing piece. “He sees the game so well,” Sullivan explained. “Mika brings a defensive awareness that’s crucial when you’re rolling out five forwards.” Is this a stroke of genius or a risky gamble? But will this revamped lineup work? J.T. Miller admits it’s a work in progress. “It’s a hard position to play up there,” he said, acknowledging the challenge of filling Fox’s shoes. “We’re still trying to find our rhythm, especially against teams applying high pressure.”
