Paris-Roubaix 2026: A Spicier Route with New Cobbled Sectors (2026)

Paris-Roubaix promoters ASO announced the route and wildcard teams for the 2026 edition, scheduled for April 12, and the expectations are high no matter the weather.

The race covers 258.3 kilometers, roughly the same distance as last year, but the cobble count has jumped to 30 sectors, totaling about 55 kilometers of rough surface. One notable twist is that the action could get underway much earlier than usual. The traditional opening segment begins with the start in Compiegne, just outside Paris, leading into roughly 100 kilometers of flat to rolling terrain, though the roads are frequently pocked with rough pavement.

The real drama starts right after the customary opening cobble sector at Troisvilles. As always, several more sectors follow in quick succession. For 2026, ASO has introduced a rarely used pavé section featuring an 800-meter-long climb. Thierry Gouvenou, ASO’s technical director who designs the route, explained that veering slightly east toward the village of Briastre creates a stretch where the first four cobbled sectors run back-to-back with almost no asphalt in between, leading to an unusually dense concentration of cobbles and intensity from the outset.

This year’s edition promises an unusually aggressive opening phase, with early accelerations and dense cobble work that could reshape how teams pace the race and protect their leaders.
